Koi Koi Pokémon (48 Cards) – Short Rules with Categories

Objective

Collect Yaku (sets) to score points. Win by completing Yaku or calling "Koi Koi" for a higher score. Special Animals, Brights, and Other cards give bonus points or unique advantages.

Deck

• 48 Cards: 12 months (flowers), 4 Pokémon per month.

Gameplay

• Draw & Match – Match cards by flower (month).
• Form Yaku – Create sets to score points.
• Category Bonuses – Certain categories (Animals, Brights, Others) can grant additional bonus points or special abilities when included in a Yaku:
  • Animals 🦊 – If you collect a full set of Animal Pokémon (1 Pokémon from each month), you get +3 points.
  • Brights 🌟 – If you complete a Yaku with any Brights Pokémon, +2 points.
  • Other 🎀 – If you complete a Yaku with any Other Pokémon (Pokémon with ribbons or special traits), +1 point.
• Koi Koi Option
  • If you complete a Yaku, you may say "Koi Koi" to continue playing and try for more points.
  • If you complete a Yaku with Animals, Brights, or Other, you can gain extra points from that category by saying "Koi Koi."
• End Round
  • The round ends if no one calls Koi Koi or the deck runs out.
  • If "Koi Koi" was called and the opponent gets a higher Yaku, they win the round.

Winning

• The highest Yaku total wins when Koi Koi is called or the deck runs out.

Losing

• If you call "Koi Koi" but fail to make another Yaku, you score 0 points for the round.

• Holographic (3) – 6 pts
• Shiny (3) – 5 pts
• Normal (3) – 4 pts
• Basic (4) – 2 pts
• Animals Set 🦊 (1 from each month) – +3 pts
• Brights Pokémon 🌟 – +2 pts
• Other Pokémon (with ribbons or traits) 🎀 – +1 pt
• Koi Koi Success – +2 pts
• Winning After Koi Koi – Double Yaku Points

Game End

• The player with the highest total points after multiple rounds wins.

Category Details:

• Animals 🦊 – A Pokémon category based on animal traits
• Brights 🌟 – Pokémon that shine or have a special aura
• Other 🎀 – Pokémon with a ribbon

Koi-Koi Pokémon – Turn Flow (Traditional Rules Adapted)

Start of Round

• Each player is dealt 8 cards.
• 8 cards are placed face-up on the table.
• Remaining cards form the draw pile.

Player’s Turn

• Play a Card –
  • Match a card from your hand with a same-flower (month) card on the table.
  • If no match, place your card face-up on the table.
• Draw a Card –
  • Take the top card from the draw pile.
  • If it matches a card on the table, collect both.
  • If no match, place it on the table.
• Form Yaku –
  • If your collected cards complete a Yaku, declare it.

Koi-Koi Decision

• Say "Koi Koi" – Continue playing to try for more Yaku and higher points.
• Stop & Score – End the round and claim your points.

Next Player’s Turn

• The opponent now follows the same steps under “Player’s Turn”.

Round End

• If a player stops or the draw pile is empty, the player with the highest Yaku wins the round.
• If "Koi Koi" was called but the opponent later gets a higher Yaku, they win instead.

Next Round

• Reset cards, shuffle, and continue playing until a set number of rounds or a target score is reached.

Card Categories

Each Pokémon is assigned a flower (month) and categorized for easy identification and scoring in Pokémon-themed Koi-Koi.
